Project Tiger in India is a wildlife protection movement started in 1972 to guard the Royal Bengal Tigers. The project Tiger targets at tiger protection in particularly comprised tiger reserves of different areas throughout India. Project Tiger strives to uphold a feasible population of this protection, dependent species in their usual environment. In 2010, there are about 40 Project Tiger Reserves across India which covers a region more than 37,761 km². Project Tiger in India has helped to boost the tiger population from 1,200 in 1970 to 3,500 in 1990. But, in 2008 census conducted by Government of India exposed that the population of tiger had come down to 1,411, after that the Government of India has promised US$153 million as additional fund project tiger and made a Tiger Protection Force to fight with the poachers and also fund the rearrangement of approximately 200,000 people living in the village to reduce human-tiger contact.
