Kaziranga National Park is located on the banks of great Brahmaputra River. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Project Tiger. Kaziranga National Park is spread in an area of about 430 Sq. KMS having marsh and big copses of elephant grass forming it a perfect place for highly endangered Indian one-horned Rhinos. The huge open area builds Kaziranga quite reachable and wildlife sighting reasonably enjoyable. In Kaziranga, the wildlife lover can depart very early during the dawn to track the wildlife animals on elephant back. In Kaziranga, a visitor can view the herds of mighty wild elephants wandering in the park and also the rhinos look around the tourists indifferently. Since the park is easily reachable, it offers an opportunity to see the prominent wildlife in the natural way from the close angle making a visit to Kaziranga National Park as one the quite memorable wildlife experiences. Kaziranga is situated in the flood areas of River Brahmaputra. The Kabri Angling Mountain ranges climb in background of the national park pushing it alongside to River Brahmaputra running as the northern boundary of the park.
It is supposed that incase the nature had not planned such a wonderful habitat, it would have been tremendously hard for human being to make a wildlife park with these types natural varieties matched to a varied series of wild animals. The Park is the monopoly of the endangered one horned Indian rhinoceros.
There are approximately 1000 one horned rhinos in the park. The wild elephant in the park is another interesting animal of the area and normally seen in groups figure more than 700. The wild buffalo is also a big attraction of Kaziranga reserve and they too are about 600 and more in the park. The mouse deer, barking deer, the hog deer, Chinkara gazelle, leopards, bears, leopard cat, the gaur, wild boars are the other wild animals of the park
The birds of the national Park are characteristic of the north-eastern India Foothill. The best parts of the birds in the park are the view of 100 of Pelicans - breeding in the reserve. The main birds found in the park commonly are Pallas fishing eagle, Crested Serpent eagle, swamp partridges, grey - headed fishing eagle, red jungle fowl, bar headed goose, Bengal florican, whistling teal, herons, egrets, open billed stork and black - necked stork.
The land of the park is very level in the entire reserve that is mostly enclosed by thick and high elephant grassland because of its flood plain ecology. A little pouch of hot deciduous and semi-evergreen jungles too happens within the area of the Park. The grasslands with dotted Silk cotton plants, Elephant Apple and Indian rosewood amongst others offer a characteristic savannah appear similar to the extensive wildernesses of North America and Africa. These charming marshlands are having a plentiful wrap of water hyacinth, water lilies and lotus. The flora which smashes the repetitiveness of the grasslands out here and marshes are big bunches of semi-evergreen jungle. The national park is very level in character and situated against a background of mountains as the Mikir and Karbi Anglong
The Kakochang waterfall is a good place to see located just 13 KMS from Bokakhat. The ruins of the very old Numaligarh are also very close to the park. There are many tea gardens around the park at Hathkhuli, Difalu, Methoni and Behora Borchapori. One may also see the coffee along with rubber plantations.
Kaziranga National Park Visits
The visits in the park can be done through Elephant or Jeep. While taking the elephant safari, the visitor can travel through interior of the jungle.
The climate of the park is humid (Tropical). The summer months are very hot here whereas the winter season is too cold. Bring the light cotton clothes during the summers and carry the woolens in the winter period. The normal rainfall in the park is 160 CMS. But during the monsoon the park gets very serious downpours that normally flood the region.
Best time to visit Kaziranga
The ideal time to explore the park is from November to April.
Air: Guwahati airport is located 215 KMS from the park and Jorhat airport is 90 KMS.
Train: Furkating railhead is 75 KMS, Jorhat 80 KMS and Guwahati 215 KMS
